Mahela Jayawardene has expressed his reluctance to join hands with Sri Lanka Cricket as a consultant, following an official request made by Minister of Provincial Councils, Local Government and Sports, Faiszer Musthapa.
Earlier in the day, news broke that Minister Musthapa had requested former Sri Lanka Cricket legends, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Muttiah Muralitharan, Aravinda De Silva and Roshan Mahanama to be consultants of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on matters related to cricketing areas on the bequest of Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Ashley De Silva.

However, Jayawardene took to Twitter to express that he would not be interested in such a position as none of the recommendations he had put forward as a part of the Cricket Committee and Special Advisory Committee had been adopted by Sri Lanka Cricket. Jayawardene went on to add that he does not ‘have any trust in the system.’
With all due respect to the selectors & the sports minister i have spent 1 year in the cricket committee & 6 months in a special advisory committee & no recomendations were implimented. I dont have any trust in the system. If any one wants to buy time please dont use us! https://t.co/tRXyLJ65n3

Late last year, Jayawardene, and fellow batting greats Kumar Sangakkara and Aravinda De Silva came together to draw up a plan to rebuild Sri Lanka Cricket over the next two years on the request the then Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekara. Jayawardene had previously drafted recommendations on the domestic cricket structure too, that unfortunately were not implemented either.
