Former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene has been appointed as the Cricket house Committee Chairman at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC).
The decision was taken unanimously at the Annual General Meeting held at the club premises on 14th July. Jayawardene is replacing the outgoing former chairman Samantha Dodanwela who has held the position for 10 years uninterruptedly.

Jayawardene, the current Mumbai Indians head coach, debuted for SSC in his first class career as a schoolboy at 17 years of age and played first class cricket for SSC throughout his career.
With this appointment Jayawardene will automatically become an SSC ExCo member as well.

SSC is also Jayawardene’s favourite hunting ground and he notched up his 11th Test ton at this venue. He also holds the record for most runs in a single venue with 2921 runs at SSC with an astonishing average of 74.89.
Sinhalese Sports Club is the most successful club in Sri Lankan domestic cricket, having won the Premier Trophy a record 32 times with the latest championship title coming in the 2016/17 season.
