Jayalath sets new Asian Record

Asian Para Games Gold medalist, Soldier Anil Prasanna Jayalath, set a new Asian record in the T42 200m at the Army Para Games concluded at Diyagama last Friday. Jayalath of Commando Regiment clocked 25.3 seconds in the 200m and set the new Asian Record, while also clocking 12.89 seconds to set a new meet record in the 100m.

A total of 17 new meet records were set during the championship along with 2 records equalled. The championship saw athletes from five foreign countries, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia, also competing throughout three days.

P.D. Kumarasiri emerged the best athlete of the championship. Jayalath was given a special award as the country’s top international medalist for the year 2014, where Jayalath won three medals in last year’s Asian Para Games in Incheon, Korea. He won two Silver medals in the 100m and long jump, while clinching the Gold medal in the 200m.

Light Infantry Regiment emerged champions with a total of 527 points, while 4 times champion Gajaba Regiment finished second with 480 points.

Gemunu Watch Regiment finished third with 353 points.
