A hat-trick by Mohamed Abdullah paved way for Java Lane SC to a commanding 6-1 win against Cooray SC in the City Football League President Cup match at City Football Complex.
Java Lane was coming in to the game after a morale boosting 3-2 win against Renown SC while Cooray SC was playing their first game of the tournament.

The Slave Island boys would continue the good form with Emmanuel Uchenna scoring in the 17th minute. The goals to show for their dominance came late in the first half with Mohamed Aleem scoring in the 42nd and Abdullah scoring his first deep into first half injury time after a goal mouth scramble.
Half Time – Java Lane 3 – 0 Cooray SC
Needing a quick response after the break A.H.N.Jayaweera did have the ball in the back of the net for Cooray SC but he was deemed offside. Matters became worse for the lads from Wellawaththa as a minute after the disallowed goal Abdullah made it 4-0 beating the defenders and the goalkeeper to the ball to score from an acute angle.
Cooray pulled one goal back immediately when Nilanka Jayaweera scored from point blank range past Dammika Senerath capitalizing on a headed across the goal from a corner.
The woodwork then became the savior for Cooray SC on a few occasions denying 2nd half substitute Mohamed Shabeer twice from close range, Janaka Chaminda pile driver from 35 yards out and Lakmal Perera from a corner.
Referee Hiran Udayakantha reversed his original penalty decision after consulting with the assistant referee but the goals kept on coming. Shabeer was not to be denied this time as he finished off a flowing move from a Janaka Chaminda cutback from the byline.
Abdullah slotted home a penalty on the stroke of full time to complete the rout and qualify for the semi-finals in emphatic fashion.
