Jaffna and Kandy defeated Kalutara and Negombo 3-2 and 9-0 respectively in the Quarter Finals of the Lanka Football Cup 2024, held at the City Football League Complex.
Jaffna v Kalutara – Quarter Final
Jaffna came from a goal down to defeat Kalutara 3-2 in the Quarter Final of the Lanka Football Cup 2024.
Mohamed Hasmeer gave Kalutara the lead in the 11th minute against the run of play, while Mohamed Rahuman missed an opportunity to score the 2nd for Kalutara.
Just before half time, Hasmeer’s effort bounced off the upright, and on the other end, Anthony Dilaxan made it 1-1 on the stroke of half time.
After the break, Gnanaruban Vinoth gave Jaffna the lead in the 68th minute from a header off a free-kick from his brother Jude Suman. In the 85th minute, Mohamed Ajmeer made it 2-2 but just a minute from full time, Dilaxan scored the winner for Jaffna.

Kandy v Negombo – Quarter Final
A star-studded Kandy thumped Negombo 9-0 in the 2nd Quarter Final of the Lanka Football Cup 2024.
Kandy opened the scoring as early as in the 5th minute through Ibrahim Jimoh’s neat finish. Negombo went down to 10 men, N. J. Fernando got his 2nd yellow card, while giving away a penalty. The penalty was put away by Aakib Faizer in the 32nd minute as Kandy went into half time leading 2-0.
Mohamed Fazal added the 3rd in the 52nd minute while Shenal Sandesh and Aakib scored in the 59th and 64th minutes. Asikur Rahuman scored the 6th goal in the 75th minute, while a goal rush in the last 10 minutes saw Ibrahim (81st), Rahuman (82nd) and Mohamed Rinaz (90th) scoring for Kandy.
