The inaugural football encounter between Isipathana College and Thurstan College will kick-off on 13th May at the Racecourse International Stadium.
The two teams will battle it out for the ‘W.A. Rohana Challenge Trophy’ which is named after former player and master-in-charge of football at Thurstan College, W.A. Rohana, who dedicated nearly two decades of his life to the betterment of football at Thurstan.
Both Principals of the two schools, Pramuditha Wickramasinghe (Thurstan College) and Oshara Panditharathne (Isipathana College) spoke about the history of the two schools and on football. They mentioned that both schools have been playing football for over 50 years and had a lot of ups and downs during those five decades but with the start of the big match will see more ups than downs.

Thurstan College’s most notable and only Sri Lanka representative is former Sri Lanka Captain Sampath Perera, who led the team to the SAFF Gold Cup in 1995, while Dineth Sankalpa captained the Sri Lanka Schools U19 team in 2014.
Isipathana College has produced 7 Sri Lanka caps most notably Manjula Sirisena, son of Sri Lanka great P.D. Sirisena.

For the inaugural encounter Thurstan College will be captained by Thimira Lakshan and vice-captain is Viraj Sampath. Head Coach is S. Shrikanth. Oshan Kavinda will lead Isipathana while Abdul Atheeq will be his deputy. Head Coach will be Shriyantha Ranasinghe.
Apart from the U20 match, the encounter will include U14, U16 and Old Boys’ matches. ThePapare.com, Sri Lanka’s No.1 Sports Hub, will be live streaming the U20 match.
