Defending league and knock out champs Isipathana College with the league tournament just weeks away will play their first practice match on the 2nd of March against the Isipathana Old boy’s team.
The game will take place at the Royal College sports complex and the Old boys team, Also known as the ‘Pathana All Stars’ will feature a number of prominent current National players in their ranks. The Old boys will be led by last years double crown winning skipper and junior National player Kumendra Dharmadasa. Kandy SC and National hooker Anuranga Walpola who captained Isipathana in 2002 will be among one of the senior players in the team.
The ‘All star’ Isipathana line up will comprise of players in the caliber of, Dinusha Chathuranga, Sajith Saranga, Rizah Mubarak, Niroshan Fernando, Srinath Sooriyabandara, Vishwamithra Jayasinghe, Lasintha De Costa, Devinda Pathiranage who donned the Green jersey during the recent past.
Isipathana College, who has a great rugby history, is known as a breeding ground for National players and has provided many players to the National ranks over the years. Incidentally the Greens will be celebrating their 50th year in rugby and this year will be of much significance for the players and old boys from Havelock Park.
The present boys will be led by Sri Lanka youth player and winger Uditha Tharanatha and will be assisted by another Junior National, Fly half Hirantha Perera. They are coached by former Isipathana greats, Shamly Nawaz and Bandula Mallikarachchi.
