Isipathana College got the better of Science College in the Cup final of the Under 16 fifteen-a-side tournament worked off at the Racecourse International Stadium yesterday.
The Full Time scores read 22 – 05 in favour of Isipathana.
Zahira, Maliyadeva, Wesley and D.S Senanayake were the winners in the other categories, claiming the Saucer, Shield, Bowl and Plate Champions respectively.
The first Final was played between Zahira and Lalith Athulathmudali. Zahira made easy work of the latter sweeping past with a 37-7 win in the only game played in the morning hours of the day.

Maliyadeva followed in Zahira’s footsteps as they blew past a hapless Piliyandala Central outfit. The lads from Kurunegala made a quick start and carried it through the match, winning 34-5. 6 tries against one was the try tally at the end of the game.

Wesley College were made to work hard for their win as the Double Blues were put through their paces by Thurstan College. Wesley took a 14 point lead into the break, however they were held to a nil second-half as Thurstan scored 2 tries. The two conversions went astray as Wesley held on by the skin of their teeth.

D.S played out a one sided game against Lumbini to win the Shield championship. Lumbini were held scoreless as DS scored 24 points to secure the game.

The game the viewers were waiting for was the grand final between Isipathana and Science College. Both looked sharp prior to kick-off, however, the Green Machine’s knack of winning kicked in as they walked away with more silverware in the Schools’ Rugby Circuit.
Pathana stormed to an early lead and held on as the half time scores read 17-5 in favor of the lads from Park Road. A solid defense coupled with a lethal attack by the Green Machine meant Science had no chance.
