Isipathana Aim Towards ‘Top Five’ Finish

Having notched one outright victory and seven first innings wins, Isipathana College have really stepped up the gas this season to become a tough competitor in Sri Lanka’s schools circuit. The green army lead by Kaminda Perera hopes to finish in the top five in Sri Lanka.

All rounder Kaminda Perera Leads

Kaminda Perera will take on the responsibilities of captain of Isipathana College. Kaminda a versatile all rounder managed to bag six wickets against D.S. Senanayake College and has scored a 48 against Lumbini College this season. 

Speaking to ThePapare.com Kaminda explained that ‘Our aim this year is to be within the best five teams in the island, and also perform well at the 51st Big Match against Isipathana College.’

‘We have a lot of young players in the side and they have been extremely supportive throughout this season. Our key to success has been good team work, and that is the prime reason we have come so far this year.’  he further added.

The Top Order

Sachin Jayasuriya has been the standout batsman for Isipathana College having scored two 50’s and a century against Zahira College as well. Salinda Ushan, Diluka Rajapakshe and Torry Thabrew have all contributed with a few half centuries.

Pramodh Maduwantha has been the most consistent batsman for Isipathana with six half centuries, and has already surpassed the 500 run milestone and is well on his way towards doubling it as the season progresses.

The Bowling Department

Left arm spinner Chameera Dissanayake leads the way for Isipathana College with 49 wickets under his belt. Chameera who averages just around 7 runs per wicket has definitely made his mark as the strike bowler for his team.

The pace attack is propped by Kaminda, left armer Dushan Nirmana and Avinda Soyza who have bagged over 30 wickets among themselves.

Torry Thabrew and Kelum Bastianze have also been extremely successful with the ball, with both players managing to take over 20 wickets each.

‘I think we have a well balanced team, we have a couple of Under 15 players, and around four under 17 players as we are looking forward to building a good future for Isipathana cricket. Eight players will be leaving this year, so we are looking at a strong squad in 2015/2016.’ said Head Coach Nishantha

‘The present team we have is a good one, with many experience players as well, Kelum Bastianz one of our key players will go on to represent his club in the Premier Tournament as well. Our hope is to produce more players that would be absorbed into the club and national stages.’ he further explained.
