The Indian Premier League is all set to begin today (31st), as defending champs Gujarat Titans clash against 4-time winners Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The extended season is set to stretch nearly 2 months, with the final scheduled to be played on the 28th of May. For the first time since 2019, the league will return to its customary home-and-away schedule where each team will play a total of 14 games. The top 4 teams will then progress to the Qualifier and Eliminators.
This season will be a big one for Sri Lanka as well, with a total of 4 players set to feature for 3 franchises – Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana for CSK, Wanindu Hasaranga for RCB and Bhanuka Rajapaksa for Punjab Kings. Only Rajapaksa will be available for the full season, however, as Pathirana, Theekshana and Hasaranga are all involved in the ODI and T20I series in New Zealand. The trio are set to join their respective teams on the 6th of April.
