The 2019 IPL will be held in India, the BCCI have confirmed. A possible clash with the general elections in India, set to take place between April and May, led to speculation that the tournament might have been played elsewhere.

Previous editions of the competition have seen matches played in South Africa and the UAE.

On Tuesday, the Indian Supreme Court’s appointed Committee of Administrators met in New Delhi to discuss the venues and window for the tournament.

A press release from the BCCI stated: “Based on the preliminary discussions with the appropriate central and state agencies/authorities, it was decided that the 12th edition of the world’s most popular and competitive T20 tournament will be scheduled to be played in India.”

It has been confirmed that the tournament will begin on 23 March, 2019. The full schedule is yet to be announced.
