Former CR&FC and Up Country Lions coach Inthisham Marikkar has been appointed Director of Development & High Performance of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU). Although Marikkar was surprisingly sacked by the Reds even after guiding them from 6th place to 3rd place in the concluded Dialog Rugby League, the SLRFU has recognized that he has all the knowledge and expertise to take on this task and help Sri Lanka rugby improve in many aspects.
Nazeem Mohamed the Hony. Secretary of SLRFU speaking to ThePapare.com said “We are delighted with appointing Inthi, I think he has one of the great rugby brains in the country, he will work closely with us in terms of putting up a structure for the development in all province and also a high performance acquisition system in place.”
He further went on to say that “we are lacking of system, once we have set it things can be run smoothly, whoever governed the body. SLRFU will find talents in U16 – U18 levels to find and they will be the next generation to play in the elite level.”[sic]
According to Mr. Mohamed, Marikkar will have a two year renewable contract and he will work along with Matt Turner, the Tuskers 7s coach, in relation to high performance development. Moreover, Marikkar will look at the performance development of the U20 sevens team who will play for Asia 7s in July-August.
