The inter school cricket tournament which is currently underway featured a number of matches today with Thurstan taking on St. Sebastians, Royal taking on Nalanda, Dharmashoka taking on Ananda and St. Peters Taking on St. Sylvesters.
Low scoring affair in Moratuwa
St. Sebastians College took on Thurstan College in their inter school cricket match today played at the Moratuwa Stadium. St. Sebastians batting first managed to score 194 runs in their first innings after Thurstan College won the toss and invited them to bat first in gloomy conditions. Sebastians managed to get their first innings total in 69 overs with Sangeeth Cooray top scoring with 34 runs. None of the batsmen went on to make use of their starts with the three Fernando’s Anushka Fernando, Anuk Fernando and Nimesh Fernando scoring 30, 20 and 28 respectively.
For the Thurstanites it was left arm leg spinner Rajitha Perera who finished with figures of 5/52. The left armer bowled 23 overs which included 4 maidens.
He had support by Minhad Jaleel who captured 3 wickets for 33 runs. Thurstan College in their 1st innings were 2 runs for no loss at the end of the day in 1.4 overs when bad light stopped play.

Peterites Dominate at Bamba
St. Peters College hosted St. Sylvesters College in Bambalapitiya today. St. Peters College won the toss and elected to field first and the visitors managed to score only 101 runs in the first innings in 38 overs.
Akalanka Dissanayake managed to top score with 19 runs and Hemantha Samarananda scored 15. The highest scorer however was Sumedha Dissanayake who scored 32 runs. Peterite medium pacie Chemil Obeysekera was the main wicket taker for the home side capturing 5 wickets for 19 runs. Right arm leg spinner and St. Peters College Skipper Dushan Hemantha supported Obeysekera by capturing 4 wickets for 24 runs.
Peterites batting in their first innings scored 176 runs for 6 wickets at the end of day one in 39.2 overs. Skipper Dushan Hemantha continued his form with the bat scoring an unbeaten 71 runs to set up a positive finish for the Peterites. Hemantha smashed his half century in 83 balls which included 5 hits to the boundary.

Padmanathan stars for Royal
Nalanda College took on Royal College today in another inter school fixture at Reid Avenue. Royal batting first put on a below par 145 runs in their first innings yesterday in 38.3 overs Poorna Aluthge top scoring with 33 runs.
Left arm leggie Pramud Hettiwatte captured 4/20 runs for the visitors. Nalanda batting in their 1st innings scored only 76 run in 38.5 over with Devind Padmanathan ripping through the Nalanda batting line up capturing 5 wickets for just 15 runs. He was given a lot of support by Chamika Karunaratne who finished with figures of 3/9.
Royal in their 2nd innings notched up 102 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 34.2 overs. Shamind Dias was the highest scorer in the 2nd innings scoring 52 valuable runs. The main wicket takers for the Nalandians were Malinga De Silva and Pramud Hettiwatte who captured 3 wickets each for 38 and 42 runs respectively.
Nalanda was then set a target of 169 runs but only managed to score 113 runs for the loss of 5 wickets when bad ligt stopped play. Padmanathan continued to torment the batsmen capturing another 4 wickets while Woshantha Silva top scored for Nalanda with 75 runs.

Dharmashoka upperhand against Ananda with Mendis Hattrick
Dharmashoka College hosted Ananda College today at the Balapitiya Grounds. Ananda winning the toss decided to field first in condition suiting bowlers early on the day.
The home team however put on a solid base to end day one at 191 run in 46 overs. Thanura Halamage was the stand out performer for the Shokians scoring 45 runs. Most of the other batsmen managed to get starts but could not go on to make a big one.
Ishan Bandarananayake and Samvu Ashan took 3 wickets each for 49 runs and 39 runs respectively for the visiting team. Ananda College was stranded on 45/6 at the end of day one with Ramesh Mendis claiming 4 wickets for just 10 runs. Yohan De Silva also played a part capturing 2 wickets for 8 runs. The right arm offie Ramesh Mendis captured a hat trick with his 4th, 5th and 6th to give the home side a huge advantage going in to day 2.
Play was stopped due to bad light at 3.45 and was called off at 4.30.
