International Judo Championship to be held in Lahore, Pakistan

The Sri Lanka Judo association has been invited to participate in the Punjab Sports Festival International Judo Championship be held from the 20th – the 28th of May 2015. The event is to take place in the Lahore sports complex and will feature participants from all over South Asia, including, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. 

According to the Secretary General of the Sri Lanka Judo Association (SLJA), Major Tharindu Weerasinghe, the team stands a good chance of medalling in many of the weight classes as the squad consists of many experienced judokas. Among them are T.G.R. Madushanka and B.A.I.P Wickramasinghe who were able to win a silver and bronze medal respectively, at the 7th Judo Championship held in Kathmandu, Nepal, last year.

The Sri Lanka Judo Association (SLJA) intends to field the following contingent for the events:

Players (Men)

  • K.L.C.K. Leemagasthenna– Under 60 kg      
  • T.G.R. Madusanka        – Under 66 Kg     
  • N.G.R. Pushpakumara        – Under 73 kg     
  • S.C. Weerasuriya          – Under 81 kg     
  • U.G.W. Pushpakumara        – Under 90 kg
  • B.G.B. Kumara Bajjala        – Under 100 kg
  • M.I. Osman                        – Over 100 Kg

Players (Women)

  • M.P.Sandamali                -Under 48 Kg
  • J.M.D. Priyadarshini        -Under 52 Kg
  • B.A.I.P. Wickramasinghe-Under 57 Kg
  • S.H.Y. Gunawardana            -Under 63 Kg
  • W.N.P.R.L. Jayarathna       -Under 70 Kg
  • M.P.C. Dilani               -Open

The players will be accompanied to the event by the following officials:

  • Mr. S.A. Maduminda Sooriyaarachchi – Coach (Men)

The team is scheduled to leave for the event on the 20th of May. All financial needs including those for food, accommodation and airfare, for the event, will be provided by the Pakistan Judo Association.
