Sri Lanka fail to score and win in both the games in Brunei

Brunei Darussalam beat Sri Lanka 1-0 in the second match of their international friendly series at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium today (June 11th).

Sri Lanka entered the second friendly of the FIFA World Series determined to make a statement after losing the first game 1-0 a couple of nights ago.

The game began with a flurry of yellow cards in the opening half-hour. Brunei’s skipper Muhd Azwan broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, giving Brunei the advantage heading into halftime. Sri Lanka attacker Dillon De Silva was the standout performer for the visitors in the first 45 minutes.

Sri Lanka started the second half defensively, hoping to make a comeback. Head Coach Andy Morrison made a couple of attacking substitutions, bringing in Waseem Razeek and Bharath Suresh in the 55th minute. In the 61st minute, Brunei defender Indera Putera was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, reducing the hosts to 10 men for the remainder of the game. Coach Morrison made his final change by bringing on former Zahira College player Aman Faizer for a possible final push to equalize.

Despite having a man advantage, Sri Lanka was unable to capitalize, and Brunei managed to see off the game, ending on the winning side after 90 minutes.
