Lyceum International School Wattala coming off with a robust second half performance drowned the home lads with defeat as they qualify into the final stage of the tournament with a comfortable eight point victory. 34-42 at full time in favor of visitors.

Turning Point

British School Colombo, led the game until halftime comfortably as they stepped into the ten minute break with a five point lead (BSC – 20 LISW -25). The girls from the home team made sure to hound the visitors with defence as they started off the first two quarters with half court traps.
Yet coming into the second half they failed to do the same and continue the momentum. Alison Wijemanne and Tenisha Buel was way off target in rebounds as they Lubna and Kasuni got the better of them during the second half.

The Lyceum girls executed the offensive plan to perfection as they ran the ball wide across the court and opted for fast breaks. Penetrating into the defense and scoring is one of their key factors and they adopted to it during the second half which they failed to in the first twenty minutes.

British School Colombo missed out on rebounds and leaked a lot of points in their defense. They failed to convert five possessions in a row to points and all the turnovers were welcomed by the score card of their counter parts.

Stats don’t lie

British School commenced the game winning the jump ball start and went on to score thirteen points which was there game best. The Lyceum girls managed to score eight points in the maiden quartet which did put them on the back foot at the start.
Bouncing back into the game, they scored seven points in the second quarter in reply to the BSC`s girls seven points. Yet, the early foundation built by the British girls helped them to lead the game at ease by five points.

Coming into the third quarter with a vigorous performance, the visitors scored fourteen points and it contained a zero-five run for two minutes. Approaching the game in a different perspective, the visitors swapped the fate of the game at the end of the third by two points as the scorecard read 27-29.

Coming into the final six hundred seconds the hosts only managed to add up another seven points into the total after being piled up with pressure. Visitors capitalising on every aspect ran amok in the defense as they scored thirteen more points to book the slot in the final of the tournament.

Bottom Line

It was evident that British School’s performance was below par during the second half of the game in comparison to the first twenty minutes.

BSC was in desperate need to etch the rebounds and they opted for too many shots outside the arc and without proper execution of the offensive play. Sarini Wikekoon was way out of touch which was a huge blow to the outfit but even though they should have had passed the ball around the perimeter and took it possession by possession.
