Amila Jaysiri wins Silver and Indunil through to Finals at Asian Indoor

Amila Jayasiri leapt to Sri Lanka’s first medal at the Asian Indoor & Martial Art Games,Ashgabat 2017. On a day where the Island had mixed fortunes at the games.

Competing in the Men’s Long jump final Jayasiri leapt a distance 7.45m in his second attempt to claim the Silver medal, the Island first at the competition . Trong Tein of China leapt a distance of 7.48 to clinch the Gold in his third attempt to take the gold overtaking Jayasiri who finished in the second place.Image

Indunil into the final with flying colors

Indunil Herath who impressed at the 800m heats with a national record-breaking run which was timed at 1:53.79 competed in the first Semi-Final of the event today. Herath came out roaring with a brilliant run to win the first heat of the event and clocked a time of 1:50.91 to better his own national record established yesterday. Herath clocked 54.52 at 400m and was ran a commanding race and finished comfortably with the second-placed Hassan Mayouf clocking a time of 1:52.22.  Herath goes into the final with the best timing of the qualified athletes and will go into the final as the favorite to take Gold. The final will be held tomorrow (20th) at 1940hrs local time.

 Vidusha place 7th in the triple jump

National record holder in the Women’s triple jump (outdoor) Vidusha Lakshani fell out of medal contention in the women’s triple jump final as she was placed 7th in the final.  Vidusha’s best jump came in her 04thattempt which was measured at 12.51m. Olga Rypakova of Kazakhstan won gold with a stunning leap of 14.32m while compatriot Mariya Vchinnikova won Silver. Chinese athletes Qiujiao Tan secured the bronze medal with a personal best leap of 13.10m.

Himasha misses 60m final

Himasha Eshan competed in the 3rd semi-final of the Men’s 60m event and was placed 04th in the race missing out on a spot in the final. Himasha clocked 6.89 in the semifinal, the exact same time that he clocked in the heat and was placed 4th in the race. Yet again it was the poor star that cost him in the final as he could not recover in time and was placed 13th overall.
