India dominate ARAE but Sri Lanka hold its own

The 2013 71st ARAE-FEARA Regatta was hosted by the Manila Boat Club on the Paoay Lake, Philippines, from January 17th to 20th.  India ran away with the event but Sri Lanka left its mark.

In the ARAE event, the Men’s Overall Hooghly Cup went to the College of Military Engineering Rowing Club, Pune, which was placed in each of the men’s events for a total of 23 points. Madras Boat Club was placed second with 21 points and Lake Club, Kolkata, came third with 20 points. 

The Women’s Overall Adyar Cup was claimed by Madras Boat Club with 28 points. CME Rowing Club, Pune, became runners-up with 23 points and Colombo Rowing Club took third place with 14 points.

Although the Colombo Rowing Club only placed fourth in the Men’s category and third in the Women’s, it is important to note that this small five member team claimed three gold medal finishes and one silver in the five events they participated in.

Sajeev de Silva and Shehan Muthugala placed first in the Men’s Double Scull, and Sajeev de Silva also clinched first in the Men’s Scull. Ishika de Silva and SubashiniKularatne won gold at the Women’s Double Scull, and Ishika de Silva placed a respectable second in the Women’s Scull.

In the FEARA Master’s Division, the Bengal Rowing Club claimed the overall V.C. Bath Interport Trophy with the Manila Boat Club and Lake Club, Kolkata placing second and third respectively. The hosts Manila Boat Club claimed the Super Master’s Championship Trophy, followed by the BRC and LC.

Mens Overall – The Hooghly Cup – Won by the College of Military Engineering Rowing Crew, Pune.

Womens Overall – The Adyar Cup – Won by the Madras Boat Club.
