The fifth and the final day of the 61st Indian Interstate Athletics Championship 2022 was held today (14th) in Chennai, and the Sri Lankan Men’s 4*400m relay team made an impressive showing in their finals.
The team managed to produce a timing of 3.06.05min, securing the 2nd position, while the India-A team won the gold medal in the event (3.05.34min). The Sri Lanka team consisted with Aruna Darshana, Isuru Lakshan, Pabasara Niku and Dinuka Deshan.
Sri Lanka Athletics warmlu welcome this performance from this young team despite their best quarter miler Kalinga Kumarage not participating in this relay due to him competing in Europe this week.
The first leg of the relay was dominated by Aruna Darshana but India-A team made a comeback in the 2nd leg and managed to keep a close lead until the finish.

This is the best performance by Sri Lanka Men’s relay team for the last 4 years after their dashing run in the 2018 Asian Games, finishing 4th. (3:02.74min)
Meanwhile, National Champion Chamal Kumarasiri leaped 15.81m in the triple jump final, a performance way below than his usual best this season. Kumarasiri jumped 16.40m, 16.29m and 16.17m in 2022.
