India Blue defeated Sri Lanka U19 Board President’s XI by 95 runs in the final of U19 Challenger’s Trophy (50 overs) which was played in Mumbai today.
Sri Lankan skipper Ayana Siriwardane won the toss and elected to field first. Openers of India Blue got off to a solid start as they put up 31 runs for the first wicket. Then the skipper of India Blue, Himanshu Rana and wicketkeeper batsman Urvil Patel built a massive partnership of 120 runs for the second wicket. From then onwards, visitors managed to take wickets at regular intervals but India Blue posted 244 runs all out in the allocated 50 overs.
Himanshu Rana top scored for India Blue with 78 runs off 90 balls and wicketkeeper batsman Urvil Patel scored 57 runs off 52 balls. Skipper Ayana Siriwardena picked up 4 wickets for 36 runs while Ravindu Sanjana picked up 3 wickets for 42 runs.
Chasing 245 to win, Sri Lankans got off to a poor start as they lost both their openers within first 7 overs. Sri Lanka Board President’s XI continued to lose wickets as the hosts bowled good lines and lengths. The wicketkeeper batsman Nishan Madushka (44) and Ravindu Sanjana (28) tried to rescue the innings, but Indian bowling was too good to handle as Sri Lanka Board President’s XI bowled out for 149 runs.
