India A dominated the first day’s play over the touring Sri Lanka A team in the 1st test match between the two sides which commenced today at Belgaum Cricket Stadium in India. The opening partnership of 352 runs between Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyank Panchal was the highlight of the day.
Sri Lanka ‘A’ squad for India tour revised due to injuries
Indian skipper Priyank Panchal won the toss and chose to take the first lease of the wicket. The opening pair Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyank Panchal got the hosts to a brilliant start as the duo built up a massive 352-run partnership for the first wicket.
The right-handed batsman Panchal, who represented the Gujarat team in the Ranji Trophy, stroked 160 runs off 261 balls before being dismissed by left arm fast medium bowler Vishwa Fernando in the 84th over of the day. Panchal’s knock included 9 fours and 2 sixes and came at a strike rate of 61.30.

The 23-year old Abhimanyu Easwaran who had a great run in the Ranji Trophy for the Bengal team, made an unbeaten 189 runs off 250 balls which included 17 fours and 3 sixes. Easwaran was the aggressor of the two as his knock came at a strike rate of 75.60. At close of play on day one, India A managed to post 376 runs for 1 wicket in 87 overs.
All Sri Lankan bowlers were sent chasing around the ground by the Indian openers. Sri Lanka also fell short in the bowling lineup, as they conceded 21 extras to the opposition. Left arm seamer Vishwa Fernando took the only wicket of the day giving away 64 runs in 13 overs.
