The inaugural South Asia Lawyers’ Cricket Cup will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 30th March to 5th April, 2023.
Cricket Association of Advocates in CAAI in conjunction with Sri Lanka Lawyers’ Cricket has organized this tournament.
This novel initiative involving zonal representative teams from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka has been introduced with a view to create greater cricketing competition amongst lawyers on a global scale.
AVR group in Bangalore, India has been signed as the principal sponsor of the event. This initial edition of South Asia Lawyers’ Cricket Cup will feature teams from Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata from India, Lahore and Karachi from Pakistan, Dhaka from Bangladesh and Colombo from Sri Lanka.
The Tournament will be kicked off in grand style with the opening ceremony being scheduled for 30th March at the Colombo Cricket Club Grounds. The dignitaries who are expected to grace the occasion will include the Honourable Chief Justice of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Honourable Judges of the Supreme Court Justice Buwaneka Aluwihare and Justice Yasantha Kodagoda, Honourable Minister of Justice Mr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ali Sabry, Honourable Minister of Tourism Mr. Harin Fernando, Honourable Attorney General of Sri Lanka Mr. Sanjay Rajaratnam, President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka Mr. Kaushalya Nawaratne, President of Sri Lanka Cricket Mr. Shammi Silva and former captains of the Sri Lanka Cricket team Mr. Arjuna Ranatunga and Mr. Aravinda de Silva.
The first round of the tournament will be worked off from 31st March to 2nd April on round robin basis while semi-finals scheduled to be held on 4th April. All these matches will be played at Colts Cricket Ground, Burgher Recreation Club (BRC) and Thurstan College Cricket Grounds.
The grand finals will be held on 5th April at the Colombo Cricket Club Grounds. All of the matches will be streamed live on the YouTube Channel of Sri Lanka Lawyers’ Cricket.
This is the second major international lawyers’ cricket tournament hosted by Sri Lanka lawyers’ Cricket in its history with the first being the Sixth Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup which was held in Colombo in August, 2017.
