The St. Joseph’s College anthem states, “Fruits of Virtue and of Knowledge, here we gather Peace and Power, symbolized in yonder banner floating o’er St. Joseph’s Tower”

Indeed the inaugural “Battle of the 90’s” epitomized the gathering of students during the 90’s under their St. Joseph’s College tower. The event successfully concluded on Sunday, 24th August, 2014; amidst past students from 1990 to 1999, their families, past teachers and friends.

This glorious day commenced at 8.30 am with the Holy Mass at the College Chapel followed by a family breakfast at the College refectory. The opening ceremony for the inaugural sports fiesta commenced at 10:00 am, with the College Rector Rev. Fr. Travis Gabriel gracing the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest.

The fiesta comprised of various events including shot-put, 50 meter dash, 50 meter relay, tag rugby and cricket 6’s. To summarize the winners of the fiesta,

Commenting on the event, project Chairman, Mr. Gayantha Dehiwatte stated “This event truly symbolized the true Blue and While spirit of the College. My expectations exceeded when I experienced the participation of our old boys. I was ecstatic, and this gave me the encouragement to organize this event annually, in a more active, harmonious manner to provide more activities to built fellowship among all Joes”.

Mr. Dehiwatta went on to give a special vote of thanks to Hiru FM as the event electronic media partner, ThePapare.com as the event online media partner, Snickers chocolates as official snack provider for the event and the staff of his own organization Diyatha (Pvt) Ltd., who was the advertising sponsor for the event. Further, he thanked the organizing committee, colleagues and friends for the successful completion of the event.
