Sri Lanka suffered a 31-run loss against Pakistan in their first game of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 played today (3rd October) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Having won the toss, Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana opted to bat first but they managed to post only 116 runs on the board as Sri Lanka produced a brilliant collective bowling performance.

Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu, Sugandika Kumari and Udeshika Prabodhani excelled with the ball, scalping 3 wickets each.

In reply, Sri Lanka also faltered with the bat against some quality spin bowling display from Pakistan. Nilakshi de Silva and Vishmi Gunaratne chipped in with fighting 20s but they were not enough to save Sri Lanka as they succumbed to a 31-run loss in the end.

Sri Lanka will meet Australia in their next game on the 5th October at the same venue.
