Sri Lanka U19s registered a 9-wicket win over newbies Japan U19 in their last group game of the tournament, finishing 3rd behind India and New Zealand in Group A. The game was played at North-West University No1 Ground in Potchefstroom.
Sri Lanka were initially threatened of a wash-out which could have resulted in them finishing 4th in the group behind Japan (Japan earned a point in their wash-out against New Zealand). However, the defending plate champs of the tournament and one-time runner-up Sri Lanka were given a chance to end the group stage with some points to their name with a 22-over game.
Sri Lanka U19s dreams crushed by the six off the penultimate ball
New Zealand U19s held on to a thrilling win in the group A encounter vs Sri Lanka in ICC Under 19…..
Sri Lanka played their Mohammad Shamaaz and Chamindu Wijesinghe in place of Kamil Mishara and Thaveesha Abhishek, making sure all 15 members of their squad got a game before the knockouts for the plate began, dominating the game from the very first ball. Dilshan Madushanka started off with a wicket and the rest were bundled out within 18.3 overs.
Japan managed to score 1 run more than what they scored against India, making this their highest total of the tournament despite none of their batsmen being able to reach double figures. Wickets were evenly divided among the Lankan bowlers, while leg-spinner Kavindu Nadeeshan was the only bowler who went wicket-less.
