ICC eradicating bowlers with suspect actions – 2nd Week of September

International Cricket Council’s crackdown on bowlers with suspect actions found a new victim in world’s number 1 ranked ODI bowler Saeed Ajmal being banned from bowling during the 2nd week of September.

ICC reports confirmed that his elbow flex twice the legal limit while Bangladesh fast-bowler Al-Amin Hossain has also been reported for a suspect action. 

 

West Indies seal 10-wicket win over Bangladesh

Kraigg Brathwaite smashed his maiden Test double-ton as West Indies convincingly beat the touring Bangladeshi’s by 10 wickets at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown. 

Mushfiqur Rahim stroked a fighting century in the 2nd innings for Bangladesh but it did not prevent the hosts from hammering the visitors as Suleiman Benn and Kemar Roach took 12 wickets between them during the match.

Bangladesh (1st inn) – 182 all out in 71.4 overs: Mominul Haque 51, Mushfiqur Rahim 48*, Suleiman Benn 5/39.

Bangladesh (2nd inn) – 314 all out in 113.3 overs: Mushfiqur Rahim 116, Mahmudullah 66, Tamim Iqbal 53, Kemar Roach 4/64, Shannon Gabriel 2/25.

West Indies (2nd inn) – 13/0 in 2.4 overs: Chris Gayle 9*.

 

Saeed Ajmal banned from bowling

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal has been suspended from international cricket after tests found his bowling action was illegal.

Ajmal, the world’s number one bowler in one-day internationals, was suspended “with immediate effect” following an assessment in Brisbane last month. The 36-year-old was reported for a suspect action after last month’s first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. He can apply for a re-assessment once he has modified his action.

“The player has been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect,” an ICC statement said.

 

Al-Amin Hossain reported for suspect action

Bangladesh seamer Al-Amin Hossain has been reported for a suspect action and he has 21 days to have his action tested at an ICC accredited facility either in Cardiff or Brisbane.

The International Cricket Council said last week that match officials cited concerns about the legality of the 24-year-old Al-Amin’s bowling action and handed a report to Bangladesh team manager Habibul Bashar after their 10-wicket loss against West Indies. 

 

Kithruwan Vithanage on Probation

Sri Lankan middle-order batsman Kithuruwan Vithanage has been deducted his full match fee and been placed on probation for one year, after he had left the team hotel overnight during the 1st test against Pakistan in Galle. A board inquiry confirmed details of his exit from the team hotel at around 7pm of the third day of the Test, and his return at around 6.30am the following morning. Those details had originally been passed on by the team manager.

 

Michael Clarke to miss Pakistan ODIs

Australia captain Michael Clarke has lost his fitness battle and will miss the One-Day International series against Pakistan that begins in the United Arab Emirates in early October. He was forced to fly home from Zimbabwe after playing just one match of the recent One-Day International tri-series due to a left hamstring injury.

 

Shahid Afridi named Pakistan T20 captain

All-rounder Shahid Afridi has been reappointed as Pakistan’s Twenty20 captain – three years after he was sacked from the role. Afridi has been appointed as captain until the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 in India. He will lead the team with immediate effect, replacing Mohammad Hafeez who resigned in April following the team’s exit from the World T20 in Bangladesh.

 

CLT20 – Qualifying stage

6th Champions League T20 tournament commenced on 13th September with the qualifying stage games and after the completion of the 6 matches, New Zealand T20 winners – Northern District Knights and Pakistan T20 champions – Lahore Lions advanced to the main tournament which will start on 17th September.

Defending CLT20 champions and 2014 IPL fourth-placed Mumbai Indians and Sri Lanka’s domestic T20 winners, Southern Express failed in their qualifying campaigns. 

 

Morne Morkel to skip CLT20

Proteas fast bowler Morne Morkel has been ruled out of Kolkata Knight Riders’ Champions League T20 campaign due to injury. The lanky quick was ruled out after he picked up a shoulder injury during the recent one-day international triangular series in Zimbabwe.

 

Ireland in 2-1 victory over Scotland

Associate giant Ireland commenced their 2015 world cup prep when they beat the touring Scotland team by 2-1 in a 3-match ODI series last week.
