The official ICC Champions Trophy 2017, which is travelling to all eight participating nations, arrived in Colombo yesterday. The Nissan Trophy Tour symbolizes the global nature of the tournament and provides cricket fans in Sri Lanka and around the world the unique opportunity to engage with the coveted trophy.
During the Sri Lankan leg of the tour, the trophy will be taken on a city tour on Thursday. An event was held at the Sri Lanka Cricket premises on Thursday morning which saw the trophy being unveiled by SLC secretary Mr. Mohan De Silva, SLC CEO Ashley De Silva and skipper Angelo Mathews.
On the same day, the trophy will be taken on a city tour to various locations from Moratuwa, Maharagama, Nugegoda, Town Hall, Galle Face with a final event to be held at the Independence Avenue in the evening.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will be held in England and Wales from 1st to 18th June featuring the top eight teams in the ICC ODI Rankings. The first round comprises two groups of four with the top two in each group progressing to the semi-finals.
Group A – Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh, England
Group B – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa
