Former England cricketer Ian Bell is set to join Sri Lanka coaching staff as a ‘Batting Coach’ for their upcoming tour of England.

The decision follows a request from Sri Lanka interim head coach Sanath Jayasuriya who has emphasized the importance of having local expertise to help the national cricketers to adapt to the conditions in England.

Bell will start working with the team on the 16th August and remain until the conclusion of the Test series.

The former England batter has played in 118 Test matches and scored 7727 runs at an average of 42.69. He has 22 Test centuries under his belt.

We appointed Ian to bring in a person with local knowledge to help the players with key insights on the conditions there. Ian has a lot of experience playing in England, and we believe his inputs will help our team in this crucial tour,” said Mr. Ashley De Silva, CEO, Sri Lanka Cricket.

The three-match Test series between Sri Lanka and England will be played from the 21st of August to the 10th of September.
