Hon. Harin Fernando, Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure mentioned that the organizers of the Super 7’s 2017 hope auction yet another championship winning team’s jersey and donate proceedings to Science College rugby.

Last year the Minister donated his own All blacks Jersey for the auction following which the funds were given to aid Isipathana College in their quest to build the much needed rugby grounds.

Sri Lanka’s high performance director Inthi Marikar, has acquired a jersey autographed by the 2016 Super Rugby champions, the Hurricanes.

Speaking at the Super 7’s media briefing this evening Minister Fernando stated “Last year I had a jersey and we auctioned it. We collected the funds and handed it to Isipathana College. Even this time, thanks to Inthi Marikar, he was able to use his contacts in New Zealand and has been able to get his hands on a Super Rugby champion team, the Hurricanes jersey, got it signed and endorsed”

He further added how they plan to raise funds for the Science team “this time around as well, we are going to do the same, auction the jersey, make some money and give it to this school that has done so well in rugby over the past. This tournament isn’t just about the rugby but about promoting rugby in schools”
