The KDU Super 10s Rugby Tournament, organized by General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), concluded yesterday at the university grounds in Rathmalana. Seven teams representing various universities and higher education institutes participated in the tournament.
In the preliminary round, the teams were drawn into two groups:
Group A: KDU, SLIIT (Kandy), Ocean University
Group B: IIT Campus, SLTC Research University, CINEC Campus, Open University of Sri Lanka
During the group stage, KDU and IIT Campus emerged as the group leaders, winning all their pool games. Alongside them, SLIIT (Kandy) and SLTC advanced to the semi-finals as the best-performing second-place teams from their respective groups.

In the semi-finals, KDU and IIT emerged victorious, securing their spots in the grand final. The first semi-final was one-sided, with the host team, KDU, dominating SLTC with five unanswered tries. In the second semi-final, after an intense battle, IIT outmuscled SLIIT (Kandy) to advance. SLTC went on to claim third place after convincingly defeating SLIIT (Kandy).
In an exhilarating final, KDU demolished IIT Campus, scoring four tries, while IIT had to settle for a consolation try.
After an intense and hard-fought tournament, Hansaka Higgoda of KDU emerged as the top scorer, recording eight tries and seven conversions. Meanwhile, Binath Kumarasinghe was adjudged Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performance.
