Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala stormed through to the All Island School Games U17 and U19 Netball Championships at St.Anne’s grounds, Kurunegala.
The dominant Queens of Schools Netball were unfortunate not to complete a hat-trick of championships, as their U15 team was narrowly defeated 14-12 by Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya.
U19 Championship
In the U19 final Holy Family Convent surged to a 31-23 win against Presbyterian Girls’ National School, Dehiwala after a flurry of 2nd half goals.
At half time the girls from Dehiwala led 13-12 in a close encounter forcing Holy Family Convent into mistakes and taking advantage of it.
However the 2nd half was a different story as Holy Family Convent bossed the Dehiwela girls as they went on an 8-0 scoring run early in the 2nd half to out-score Presbyterian 19-10. The final score read a commanding 31-23.

In the semi-finals Presbyterian Girls’ School defeated Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala 28-21 while Holy Family Convent cruised through to a 33-08 win against Sacred Heart Convent, Galle.
In the quarter finals Holy Family Convent beat Hillwood College, Kandy and Presbyterian Girls’ had the better of Carmel Balika, Chilaw.
U19 Best Player – S.S.Sathya (Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala)
U17 Championship
Holy Family Convent cruised to a 21-13 win in the U17 championship against Hillwood College, Kandy.
The winners were comfortably ahead leading 7-3 and 17-9 at different times of the match.
In the semi-finals, Holy Family Convent defeated Girls’ High School, Kandy 21-15 and Hillwood College had a narrow 21-19 escape against Visakha Vidyalaya.
In the quarter finals, Holy Family Convent and Hillwood College defeated Holy Family Convent, Kalutara and Sri Sanmuha Hindu Ladies College respectively.
U17 Best Player – Suseema Kumari (Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala)
U15 Championship
Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya spoilt the Holy Family Convent party early on as they went onto bag the U15 title in a close 14-12 win.
Maliyadeva Balika managed to keep their distance against their rivals from the get go as they led 7-6 at half time. Holy Family Convent was unable to produce a 2nd half comeback as Maliyadeva Balika held onto a 2 point win.
In the semi-finals Holy Family Convent,Kurunegala defeated Holy Family Convent, Kalutara 14-7 while Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya downed Visakha Vidyalaya 16-13.
In the quarter finals Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala and Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya got the better of Musaeus College and Girls’ High School, Kandy respectively.
