Some of the final games in the group stage of the 26th Mercantile Services Basketball League were held in and around Colombo yesterday. Here`s what happened.
Nations Trust Bank (Women) v Hatton National Bank (Women)
The A division encounter was played as the first match for the day at the Hendry Pedris Stadium. Nations Trust Bank trailed HNB by fourteen points into half-time as the scoreboard read 25-11.
Mishika Hirushi top scored in the match adding fifteen points for Nations Trust Bank while she was helped with nine points by Niroshini Paiva. Kumarini Silva added fourteen points for the opposing team while Imesha Thathsarani chipped in with nine points.
Keeping up the scoring momentum, Hatton National Bank scored twenty-five more points in the second half of the game while Nations Trust Bank replied with twenty points. The final scoreboard read 50-31 as Hatton National Bank topped the group and booked their slot in the semi-final stage. Nations Trust Bank finished third and qualified for the semi-finals as well.
Mobitel (Women) v David Pieris Motor Company (Women)
The B division encounter was played as the second match of the day at Otters Aquatic Club. David Pieris Motor Company led the game by fifteen points into lemons as the scoreboard read 27-12.
Kodikara top scored in the game with eighteen points while Tharushika added another seventeen points for David Pieris Motor Company. It was Dissanayake who scored fourteen points for Mobitel and another thirteen was added by Rupasinghe.
Going into the second half of the game Mobitel scored twenty-nine points and David Pieris Motor Company scored thirty-one points. Mobitel failing to guard their territory walked away in despair as the final scoreboard read 41-58.
HSBC Sri Lanka v David Pieris Motor Company
The C division encounter was played as the final match for the day at Otters Aquatic Club. HSBC Sri Lanka led the game by thirteen points into lemons as the scoreboard read 32-19.
Hasantha, doing most of the scoring for HSBC Sri Lanka, top scored with twenty-two points while Praveen added ten points. Thanushka scored nineteen points for David Pieris Motor Company while Nalaka added nine points.
HSBC Sri Lanka upped their game even better as they went on to add thirty-two points in the 2nd half while David Pieris Motor Company only managed to add twenty-five points. The final scoreboard read 65-44in favor of HSBC Sri Lanka.
