Hatton National Bank “A” edged out Commercial Bank “A” in the Mercantile League Hockey Tournament match played on the 9th June at the Astro Turf Colombo.

The 4th Annual Thomians’ Schools Hockey 7s Tournament….
An exciting finish was witnessed at this encounter as HNB came out winners defeating Commercial Bank “A” by 3 goals to 2 goals after leading at half time by 2-0.
HNB “A” went into an early lead in the 07th minute when Nuwan Mahara scored off a penalty corner. The second goal too was also scored in the 29th minute from a penalty corner by Damith Bandara.
Just two minutes after the resumption of the second half Gimhara Gunatillaka netted the third goal for HNB. Commercial Bank kept pressing the opponents but missed a sitter in the 42nd minute. They bounced back to score two goals in the 54th and 58th minute from the stick of Sachintha Herath and Anju Hewage but HNB held on with solid defence in the last two minutes to take the title.
Colombo rules Western Province Hockey
The Western Province Inter District Hockey Tournament..
MAS Holdings had to be satisfied with the 3rd place in this tournament.as they defeated Sampath Bank by 2 goals to 1 after leading 1-0 at half time.
Abeetha Fernando scored the first goal for MAS in the 21st minute off a pass by Krishan Kumarasinghe. In the 44th minute Kumarasinghe scored from a pass by Abeetha Fernando. Sampath Bank’s solitary goal was scored by S.Ushantha in the 53rd minute and the last seven minutes of play saw a good game of Hockey with both teams equally balanced but MAS scraped through at the final whistle.
In the “B” Division league last round encounter Browns Group trounced NTB by 9 goals to 2.

Browns Group went into an early lead when C.Mallikaratne scored in the 05th minute. But Umesh Malinga netted a goal for NTB to equalize soon after. C.Mallikaratne scored his second goal for Browns in the 21st minute and was yet again replied to by Umesh Malinga who scored his second goal for NTB.
The second half saw a turnaround of the game as it was dominated by Browns who scored seven goals in of 30 minutes. The goals were scored in the 31st, 38th, 39th, 45th, 46th, 49th and 54th minutes from the sticks of R.Ranga, R.Mohamed, N.Kahingala, M.Yasas (2) and P.Pathum (2).
