Last Man Stands spring season 2017 ended today with last year’s champions Heshan Flexe retaining the trophy with ease beating Sapphire Sports Club in the final at Thurstan Grounds.

The tournament started four weeks back and today we saw the best four teams battle it out for an exciting cash prize and the trophy. First semi finals was played between defending champions Heshan Flexe and Stafford Motors. The game went right down to the wire but it was the defending champions who prevailed. Heshan Flexe posted 86 runs in their 10 overs. In reply Stafford motors were well on par to chase it down but they fell just 3 runs short.

Second semi final was played between Colombo Benz and Sapphire Sports club. Colombo Benz opted to bat first but they only managed to post 69 runs. It proved to be way below par as Sapphire SC got over the line in a canter and won the match by 2 wickets.

The final was played as a 20 over game and it was the defending champions who opted to bat first. They managed to put a formidable total of 187 runs in their allocated 20 overs. Nimesh Perera top scored with 59 while Buddika Prasad chipped in with a valuable cameo of 36. Ashen Abeykoon and Nuwan Goonawardane shared 2 wickets a piece for Sapphire SC.

In reply, Sapphire could not keep up with the required rate and they kept loosing wickets trying to up the ante. They could only manage 57 runs which gave Heshan Flexe a mammoth win by 130 runs. They went home with Rupees 300,000 in cash, the title and a chance to travel to South Africa for the world championship this year.
