Kandy school girl from Hemamali College, Chathuri Siriwardena and Army Lance Corporal Nissanka Herath were adjudged as the Best Female and Male Boxer at the BASL Novices Boxing Championship held at the Royal College Boxing Ring, MAS Arena.
This important fixture was well organised by the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), and it featured 125 boxers from 21 clubs where the participation was less compared to previous meet.

This marked the third Best Boxer award in the recent meets for Chathuri who was honoured with the most scientific boxer at the BASL Junior Championship and All Island National School Games last year. The talented 18-year-old from Kandy outclassed another talented girl, V. Gayathri of Omega Line Boxing Club, Vavuniya in the Light Fly (50kg) weight final.
Army Archers player Nissanka Herath edge out S.D. Weerasinghe of Back2Fit Boxing Club in a fierce battle at the Minimum (48kg) weight category.
As usual Army players dominated in the men’s division winning 12 of the 13 weight classes in addition to five silver medals. Omega Line Boxing Club, Vavuniya was successful in the Women’s division with two gold and four silver medals while Veyangoda Boxing Club gave them a close contest with two gold and two silver medals.
