Havies go on top with bonus point win

Havelocks Sports Club went past defending champions Kandy SC in the points table with a bonus point victory against Police SC by 35 points to 26 at Havelock Park grounds.

Cops who opened up the scoring with a try by Udaya Sanjula. Fijian Emosi Vunivosa was the one who created the play as he made an immediate impact coming into the team after the band was lifted this week. The hosts replied in the next minute with Chamara Dabare jumping over near the touch line. Skipper Niroshan gave the long cut out pass to Dabare who just had to jump over, near the touch line. (Havelock SC 7 – Police SC 5)

The park boys came back again and this time it was Dinuk Amarasinghe who found the whitewash. Pretty similar to the first try, Havies forward got the ball near the 5m and once Dinuk got the ball there was no stopped him. Both tries were converted by Riza Mubarak. (Havelock SC 14 – Police SC 5)

Police managed to draw back the deficit with a converted try by Iroshan Silva. Sifaz Amath at first receiver got the ball, saw Iroshan running in at a perfect angle and passed the ball to Iroshan who hit the gap at pace. However, Havelocks responded yet again with the second try of Dabare who gathered the loose ball from the restart and ran over. (Havelock SC 21 – Police SC 12)

Minutes before the half time Nisal Samadhi managed to find the whitewash. It was the fijian yet again who carried the ball near the touch line. Janith Chandimal Converted the last two tries.

The second half was dominated by the hosts. After 18 minutes of scrappy play from both sides, Amarasinghe went over for the 2nd time showing his pace and power. He brushed off three defenders to push over. Police lost their composure and Amjad Fawmy received a yellow card minutes after he came in as replacement. Few moments later, Rasith Silva was given a double yellow and incidentally a red for faul language on the referee. (Havelock SC 28 – Police SC 19)

CH & FC managed to win a pivotal game against defending champions Kandy Sports …

The finishing blow was given by Mithun Hapugoda who showed his wit as he twisted and turned from tackles and touched down near the post. Riza Mubarak who had a wonderful game didn’t even use the Kicking Tee to convert his fifth conversion. (Havelock SC 35 – Police SC 19)

Police managed to cross the whitewash through skipper Udara Suriyapperuma but, it was too late as Havelcoks secured he bonus point win and the place at the top of the table going past Kandy SC.
