St. Aloysius’ College led by Ashen Bandara managed to record an outright win against haplessZahira College in a traditional fixture of Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two day cricket tournament 2017/18 at Zahira College grounds on Saturday.
After winning the toss yesterday, Zahira College stand-in skipper Mohammed Rifath Rizwan decided to take the first lease of the wicket by opting to bat first. However, the home team could only manage to get 189 runs all out for their first innings. Rifath top scored with 67 runs while Yasith Nirmala chipped in with 23 runs.
Sri Lanka U19 discards, left arm spinner Hareen Buddila and off-spinner Ravindu Sanjana were brilliant with the ball for the visitors as they picked up 4 wickets a piece.
In reply, St. Aloysius’ managed to go pass the opposition team’s first innings score as they posted 206 runs on the board. Right hand batsman, Pasindu Nanayakkara scored a half ton while Ravindu Sanjana (47) and Ashen Bandara (44) made valuable contributions with the bat. Mohommed Raahidh, an under 13 player was the pick of the bowlers for Zahira as he bagged 4 wickets for 58 runs.
For the second innings, Zahira College showed a poor batting display as they were bundled out for 53 runs. Hareen Buddila showed his tricks with the ball again as he picked up 5 wickets while left arm spinner Kavika Dilshan and Left arm seamer Dinuka Lakmal shared 5 wickets between them. St. Aloysius College chased down the target of 37 runs with 8 wickets to spare.
In the current season, St. Aloysius’ College, Galle has now notched up four outright wins. Buddhila who was overlooked for the Youth Asia Cup 2017 in Malaysia has now reached 52 wickets in 7 matches. He has taken 7 five-wicket hauls and 2 ten-wicket hauls.
