The Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) has announced the groups for this year’s schools first XI tournament.
The tournament, which was supposed to begin in September last year, was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The SLSCA has announced a modified tournament as a remedy for the lost time.
Hence, the tournament will be a limited overs affair this year which will be played from mid-March till the end of April. The competition is expected to be held for all three divisions in schools’ cricket with a remodeled tournament structure.
The first-round matches are expected to be done before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year and the knockouts will be played from April 20th to 30th.
This year, the tournament will be played in two tiers for both division 1 and 2. In division 1, each tier will have 18 teams based on their standings in last year’s league, while division 2 will have 18 teams in tier A and 17 teams in tier B.
The top two teams of each group in the league and two best teams among the 3rd positions will go through to the quarterfinals in each division.
