Sri Lanka’s superstar prodigy, Harshana Godamanne, is back in town! Godamanne has finally touched down in Sri Lanka to compete in the final battle for 2018, in the Davis Cup Group II fixture against Indonesia, which takes place on the 7th and 8th of April at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association.
Sri Lanka to play Indonesia to stay alive
The Sri Lanka National Davis Cup Tennis Team will play..
The longest standing man in the Sri Lanka National Davis Cup Team – 16 years – Godamanne is seen as one of the most celebrated athletes in the country and living up to this title, he has returned to join his team in the upcoming clash between Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Harshana Godamanne will be a proud recipient of the Davis Cup Commitment Award which will be presented by the International Tennis Federation on 7th April before the start of play.
Sri Lanka is faced with a sudden death situation, losing the first-round play-offs to Thailand earlier this year after a valiant effort. In Godamanne’s absence, youngsters Sharmal Dissanayake and Yasitha De Silva, stepped up to the plate to grab Sri Lanka their first win in Group II. After two days, five ties and close sets, the team fell one match short of victory and had to take a step back.
