Shanuka Felix scored a superb hat trick as De Mazenod College defeated Nalanda College 6-0 at Kew Points Road in the Kotmale Chox schools U19 football tournament.
Shanuka hat trick crush Nalanda
De Mazenod needed to comeback strongly in this match after having lost to Ananda in the previous match. They did it in fine style with Niwan Adeetha, Nayan De Mel and Pramuditha Gunasekara adding the rest of the goals.
De Mazenod had the majority of possession and were camped in the Nalanda half for much of the match. They took their time in the initial stages passing the ball around and plotting a way through the Nalanda defense.
The Kandana lads penetrated the Nalanda defense in the 8th minute when Pramuditha went past two defenders and scored at the near post. Minutes later Nayan De Mel added the second through a fierce shot which had the goalkeeper palming it into the goal. By this time De Mazenod had started to penetrated the defense at will especially through the impressive Pramuditha Gunasekara, as he again shot a low drive which the keeper fumbled letting Niwan Adeetha score an easy tap in from the rebound. Minutes before half time De Mazenod added the fourth, when Shanuka Felix crashed home a wonderful free kick from a set move.
In the second half Shanuka added his second in the 60th minute from a tap in and again scored from a freekick in the 75th minute. De Mazenod took the game lightly in the second half and missed a couple of chances which prevented the scoreline getting much worse for Nalanda.
