The Sri Lanka Tuskers sevens represent Naveen Henakankanamage is once again set to give leadership to the Sri Lanka Under 20 Sevens side as they look at winning the junior Asian title that they last won back in 2016.
The former S. Thomas’ captain, who made his national sevens debut last year, is confident that his team has the capability of making it to the top after finishing as runners up last year behind Hong Kong.
“I’m very proud to lead this year’s team and the plan is to correct our mistakes and rectify ourselves and somehow win this year’s tournament”
Leadership is nothing new to Henakankanamage, as he successfully led the Sri Lanka Under 18 team to glory in the Asia Under 18 sevens series 2016 in Chinese Taipei. He also provided leadership to the Under 20 sevens side in 2017 and later the Junior Tuskers in the fifteens for the Asia U19 Championship.
The national selectors have shortlisted a 17-member extended squad for training which is to be approved by the Minister of Sports Faiszer Musthapha. The final 12 member touring squad will be confirmed by the end of this week.
