Gihan Suwaris and Dilshan Gunawardena to battle for Mens Open

Sri Lanka Air Force open Squash Championship which got underway from the 2nd of this month at the Air Force Squash Complex in Ratmalana will conclude today with the final matches of the main events scheduled to take place in the evening today.

Top seed of the Mens Open event Dilshan Gunawardena secured his place in the finals after overcoming Udantha Hewage in semi finals in straight sets. Dilshan had no trouble in winning the match and the final scores were  11/3, 11/4 and 11/7 in his favor.

However, the other semi final saw Gihan Suwaris being stretched for a hectic five setter by Ravindu Laksiri. Gihan took the first game at 11/9 but could not keep the lead as Ravindu trailed back to take the second set at 11/5 to tally the set scores . Gihan took the third set at 11/9 and lead 6/ 1 in the fourth set before Ravindu fought back again to take the fourth set at 11/8 to square things off. The last set too saw the score-board ticking without much of a gap between the scores of the two players and Gihan wrapped up things winning the last set at 11/8 to qualify for the finals.

In the Women’s Open event top seed Mihiliya Methsarani qualified for the finals after overcoming Nadindi Udangawa in the semi finals .In the other semi final bottom seed Naduni Gunawardena beat Kasuni Gunawardena to qualify for the finals.

In the boys u-19 event top seed Ravindu Laksiri beat Lakitha Senanayake in straight sets with the scores on 11/9,11/3 and 11/3 to qualify for the finals .Ravindu will meet Udantha Hewage in the final. Udantha beat Harin Weerasuriya in straight sets in the other semi final.

The Girls U-19 final was a one-sided affair where Mihiliya Methsarani overcame Naduni Gunawardena in straight sets. In the Girls u-17 final Wasundara Suwaris beat Raisha Deen in straight sets with the final score reading 11/3,1/2 and 11/1.Sameera Deen beat Dewmini Gallage in the girls u-13 final while Kasuni Gunawardena and Saduni Gunawardena qualified for the Girls u-15 final.

Shamil Wakeel beat Senindu Dharmathilaka in straight sets  in the boys u-17 final while Ravin Nanayakkara beat Methmal Wood in a four setter in the boys u-13 final .In the boys u-15 event Senindu Induwara Dharmathilaka and Druwinka Perera qualified for the finals after overcoming  Mohomed Hakim and Heshan Balasuriya in straight sets respectively.

The finals of the open events and the remaining junior events will be worked off in the evening today .
