Geli Oya FC, Rathmalana United, Great Star SC and Youngsters SC kept their hopes alive in the 2016 Premier League Division II Championship with wins during the week.
Rathmalana United edged Air Lanka SC 1-0 in a tight game at the Vernon Fernando Stadium in Kalutara while Great Star SC won 2-1 against Nugaduwa United at the Zahira Grounds in Ginthota.
Youngsters SC had an easy 3-1 win against Lucky SC from Mutur at the MCC Grounds, Mutur.
The match between Geli Oya FC and Young Mates SC was played at the Dunbar Stadium in Hatton, where Geli Oya FC cruised through to a comfortable 3-1 win.
Geli Oya opened the scoring through Odei Evans in the 22nd minute before Mohamed Faizal equalized for Young Mates four minutes later.
However Geli Oya restored their lead in the 36th minute when Evans slotted home a penalty as it ended 2-1 at half time.
In the 2nd half, a home team defender was sent off by the referee, which made the task that much easier for Geli Oya as they scored another through Sri Lanka schools’ player Mujahid Ahamed in the 65th minute.
The score remained the same at full time.
