Magical bowling figures of seven for 53 to go with his three for 22 in the first innings by Geethika Jayathilake sealed St. Benedict’s a comprehensive innings and 39 run win over Gurukula Vidyalaya in their U-19 inter-school cricket match concluded at Kotahena today.
The win was host’s first outright win this season and would take a bag of confidence to the remainder of the season.
His match bag of ten for 75 runs was the catalyst for their victory, even though their skipper Yohan Soysa did produce a stunner with the ball in the first innings as visitors crashed to just 84 runs in their first innings.
Jayathilake’s seven for 53 saw Gurukula crashing for 110 in the second innings enabling a smooth sail for the home team. Rohan Anuradha however hit an unbeaten half century, but was in vain as wickets fell at a regular pace to hand an innings win.
Earlier St. Benedict’s were bowled out for 233 runs after they resumed from their overnight score of 188 for five when Damitha Hasitha collected five wickets for 72 runs.
Shiran Ratnayake who was unbeaten on 62 yesterday could add only eight runs to his overnight score as they managed 45 runs for the last five wickets.
