Tall and lanky right-arm fast-bowler Geethal Fernando picked up 7 wickets for 16 including a hat-trick as St. Benedict’s College annihilated St. Joseph’s College to only 39 runs in their annual traditional encounter played for the Mack-Croner trophy on Friday at Kotahena.
On a damp surface, Bens skipper Thulina Dilshan won the toss and elected to field first. After being 25 for 1, the Josephian batting was in complete disarray as they lasted only 14.4 overs. 8 batsmen fell without troubling the scores while Shewon Fonseka, Malshan Rodrigo and Charuka Raveen were the batsmen who fell in the 13th over as Geethal picked up a hat-trick. The hosts’ were 105 for 6 at close of play.

Left-handers, Manelka De Silva and Hashan Wanasekara stroked half-centuries as St. Peter’s College took control in their under 19 division one Pre-Quarter final encounter against Gurukula College at Bambalapitiya.

St. Joseph’s College fielded their second-string team for their under 19 division one Pre-Quarter Final encounter against Richmond College at Darley Road.
With the 1st XI team taking part in the traditional encounter, the young second XI team performed exceptionally well against the star-studded Richmondites. Sri Lanka Under 19 representatives, Wanindu Hasaranga and Kamindu Mendis starred with the ball and bat respectively for the team from Galle while off-spinning batting all-rounder Pahan Perera excelled for the home team.

Ananda College vs St. Sebastian’s College
Sri Lanka U19 opener and St. Sebastian’s College captain, Avishka Fernando slammed an elegant century as he helped his team take control of their under 19 division one Pre-Quarter Final match against Ananda College at DS Senanayake grounds.
The match had a delayed start due to wet ground conditions. The right-handed run-machine was unbeaten till close of play stroking 121 off 131 balls and was involved in an unbroken 211-run stand for the 2nd wicket with Praveen Perera.
