For a better, stronger 41st National Sports Festival

“We will strive to have this 41st National Sports Festival in the best and correct way possible,” the newly appointed Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara added at the Press Conference for the 41st National Games, at the Sports Ministry Auditorium.

The 41st National Sports Festival to be held on the 18th, 19th and the 20th of December at the Mahinda Rajapakse Stadium, in Diyagama.

“Every media station has given very good support up until now. It is of huge value. And they have pointed out deficiencies where it has been helpful for us to rectify,” the Minister added thanking the media.

“We have arranged an extensive care package for the participating teams at the four schools, including food, security, transport and lodgings,

“We are doing all these for good and correct National games. There can be some short comings but we will learn from them and be stronger for next year,” he went on to say.

Speaking at the Press Conference Media Committee Chairman, Prasanna Adhikari added,

“We have also made lodging arrangements for media personnel, who have travelling difficulties. Also there will be a media room with all the necessary needs including fax and internet,”

“We will be having a special press conference on the 19th evening with all the record breakers at the Stadium along with the Minister.”

The Games’ Olympic Torch will be lit by Western Province veteran athlete B.B.Nayanananda and Jayamini Elleperuma while the athletes’ and referees’ pledge will be done by C.D.Aloka and Lal Chandrakumara respectively.

There was a special occasion at the gathering as popular singer Ashanthi unveiled the theme song for the 41st National Sports Festival.
