Hat-trick hero Chandrasekara helped Army SC shrug off Civil Security Force with a 6 goals to nil score in the Dialog Champions League group stage encounter on a gloomy afternoon at the Navy Base in Welisara.
Four goals in the first half and a further two goals in the second half saw Army put in a five star performance to steam role over Civil Security.
Army dominated proceeding from the onset as they pressurized Civil Security with attack after attack which finally paid dividends as Punsara Thiruna scored in the 13th minute.
However Civil Security Force held on for almost another 20 minutes before centre-forward Sajith Kumara made it 2-0 with a scintillating goal in the 32nd minute.
In the absence of star striker Mohamed Issadeen, Thivanka Chandrasekara netted twice in 3 minutes (42nd & 45th) to put the icing on the cake to end the first half as Army carried a 4 goal cushion in to half time.
Half Time: Army SC 4 – 0 Civil Security Force
Civil Security made a half time change as they brought on Suresh Kumar with hope of reversing fortunes.
The change had little to no effect on the game as Army began from where they left off piling on the pressure on Civil Security.
Injury woes meant that both Army and Civil Security were forced to make like for like substitutions that meant the game did not make much progress in the second half.
Chandrasekara put the gloss on his performance as he completed his hat-trick with a well-placed chip over the back line which was controlled well and brought down as Chandrasekara finished splendidly to virtually killing the game in favor of Army.
Army drew the curtain down on an excellent performance as Thiruna finished a pin point cross from wide man Madushan De Silva. The goal was scored in injury time to end a comfortable win for Army.
