Five new Games Records on Junior Nationals day 1

The opening day of the 63rd Junior National Athletic Championship saw five new Games Records being set at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium.

18-year-old Thushane Silva, who excelled at the Asian Youth Athletic Championship a few days ago, set a new Games Record in the Pole Vault achieving a height of 4.50m.

A. Sandeepa, from Ambagamuwa Central College, finished the U16 Boys’ 300m hurdles event with a record time of 40.55secs, while S. Himashani from the same school, competing in the Girls’ 300m hurdles event set a record of 47.3secs.

In the Girls’ U20 100m hurdles event D. Kahangama, from Mahamaya Girls’ Schools Kandy, set the 4th record of the day with a time of 14.45secs. L. Dissanayake of Swarnamali Girls School Kandy set the final record of the day In the U23 category of the same event with a timing of 14.51secs.

In the Girls’ U23 200m event Y. Dahanayake of Air Force won the event with a timing of 25.37secs.
