Imperial College made easy work of the University of Colombo, defeating the latter 4-0 in the 3rd place play-off match worked off in the SLIIT Legacy Shield Football League 2024.

The game was poised to be a thriller, however, the lads from Imperial College had other ideas as they shot off the blocks quickest to demolish the lads from the University of Colombo.

It took Imperial just 7 minutes to break the deadlock as Suhaad Endra riffled home a low shot past the goal keeper to open the scoring.

One goal lead to another as Imperial’s forward Abdulla Mubarak doubled their lead, heading home from close range to put a cushion between the two teams.

The game was a one way battle in the opening 10-minutes, resulting in a comedy of errors yielding the third goal for Imperial College, helping them put the game to bed before the game really got going.

Suhaad Endra completed his braze with in 4-minutes, resulting in the University of Colombo seemingly being knocked out of the game.

The Colombo Universities malfunctioning defence did not help their cause as Imperial College took a healthy 3-goal advantage.

With the game settled for the lads from Imperial College, they took control, meaning the players from the University of Colombo had to chance the game.

The second half began in similar fashion to the first, this time, however, the Imperial lads failed to hit the target as the score remained the same going into the last half-hour.

Theshan Thushmika in the no.8 jumper put the game beyond doubt as he guided home the 4th for Imperial College, giving no way back for the University of Colombo.

This win meant Imperial College finished 3rd in the SLIIT Legacy Shield Football League 2024.
