The 15th edition of the Ladies’ College versus Musaeus College Regatta got off to a shaky start as the skies were pouring right from the get-go. However, despite the terrible conditions six races were completed today whilst four more remain for tomorrow.
It was raining cats and dogs at the Colombo Rowing Club as the waters in Beira kept rising almost to the edge of the banks. But however, as the stormy conditions began to seize the first race – ‘B Scull’ commenced the day’s proceedings.
It was a fairytale start for the defending champions Musaeus College as the girls showed pure class and aggression winning the first three races on the trot. ‘B Scull’, ‘A Pair’ and ‘A Scull’ races were all won by the Musaeites sparking some hope to a consecutive third title.
Unfortunately, the rain interrupted once again forcing the races to be delayed. After a thirty minute stoppage the event resumed with the ‘B Pair’ race and this time it was the young crew from Ladies’ who took the honours.
In the final two races before the rain storm took over, Musaeus College saw off Ladies’ College winning both the ‘A Scull Doubles’ and the ‘Old Girls four’ and dominating the entire day’s races.
The brilliant performance of the Musaeites inspite of the rain will be a definite confidence booster ahead of tomorrow’s final four races. For the LC-ites on the other hand, tomorrows four races will be a must win situation as their opposition is currently in the driver’s seat after today!
The races are set to commence at 7.00am tomorrow at the Colombo Rowing Club.
